Samsung Galaxy S9 price, release date & features |
Samsung just announced the Galaxy S9, and now we’re getting details on how much retailers and wireless carriers are going to charge for it. The cheapest way to get the phone (without a trade-in) is through Samsung itself. But pricing gets surprisingly more complicated when you bring in wireless carriers: AT&T and Verizon are charging extra, but they’re also offering trade-in discounts that can more than offset the price increase.
Here are the details we have so far — we’ll be updating with more info as it comes out. In all cases, pre orders start March 2nd and sales start March 16th.

Samsung Galaxy S9 other features
Samsung says it believes people are communicating more with images than ever before, so it has made its own feature called AR emoji. AR stands for augmented reality and this feature uses the front camera to take a selfie and make an emoji based on your looks.
It works in a similar way to The Sims, where you make an image that represents you and can be customized. It uses facial recognition and can recognize over 18 different expressions.
It's a similar idea to the Animoji feature available on the iPhone X, but this allows you to make your own character and give it different hair colors, dress senses, 12 different clothing options and choose from 7 pairs of glasses.
SAMSUNG GALAXY S9 COLOURS
The Samsung Galaxy S9 is available in three colour schemes: Lilac Purple (which is a new), Midnight Black and Coral Blue.
SAMSUNG S9 SPECS – PROCESSOR, RAM, STORAGE AND BATTERY
That Snapdragon 845 should be blisteringly fast – 25 percent faster than the processor which is in last year’s Galaxy S8, according to benchmarks that seem to be impressing everyone in the industry. Qualcomm says that not only is the new processor faster, but it will extend battery life, too.
In terms of Exynos 9810 specs, it has four performance cores than can reach speeds of up to 2.9GHz, and four efficiency cores for extending battery life when the device is in a low-power mode or application.
The Exynos-powered Samsung S9+ has also been benchmarked, with Sammobile reporting that it also performs well.
In terms of memory, reports suggest we're looking at 6GB of RAM in these phones, though one leak on Chinese website Weibo claims that the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus will feature more RAM (and storage) than the standard S9.
The rumour, which comes from an "insider", claims that the Samsung Galaxy S9 will be available in two variants: a 4GB RAM/64GB model, and a 4GB RAM/128GB model, while the larger Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus will be available in three variants: a 6GB RAM/64GB model, a 6GB RAM/128GB model, and a 6GB RAM/256GB model.
In addition, the rumour states that Samsung could, if the demand is shown to be there, explore releasing a 512GB edition of the S9 Plus, as well. The extra RAM and storage does make sense to us for the larger handset, but we will be interested to see in which territories these models get a release.
That leaves the Galaxy S9 battery. While initial reports from Asia did say that the battery is going to get a major upgrade this year (the packs inside the S8 phones weren't particularly huge), more recent leaks suggest the same 3,000mAh and 3,500mAh sizes will be used.
A second leak confirms the same battery sizes. Let's hope Samsung applies some under-the-hood trickery to eke out more battery life instead.
